The Hooves Family Pt 2 - The Doctor and Derpy

Now onto why I didn't vector it. Originally, I did plan on uploading a vector of this sketch and this sketch here: theamorywarssoldier9.deviantar… put together as one solid art piece and I was even halfway through it with Derpy being completely finished and the Doctor's head already completed. But for some reason, when I took a look at it, it looked utterly God awful. I really don't know why. I mean, granted the drawing isn't the best in the world and can still use some work, it was still a sketch that I was happy enough with to post here as a sketch only. But when I had it vectored, I hated it. I didn't think it looked half as good as I thought the sketch did. What's more frustrating was that I approached this sketch the same way I have any of my other vectors but for some reason it just didn't turn out as good as I wanted it to be. So I scrapped it.

Maybe I've been going about making vectors the wrong way all this time. If anyone has any tips or pointers for me on making sketches to vectors, I'd gladly appreciate it to make my art that much better.

For the record, I use Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 and use the Pen and Stroke tool to draw over sketches as a vector. This is the way I go about doing the eyes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jtGRq…
